Welcome!

Sabrage Champagne

Cmdr. Karl -H. Flügel

Bubble Blasts

Our program of events throughout the year are held at prestigious venues gives our members and their guests excellent value for money and plenty of opportunity for Sabrage as well as enjoying  fabulous friendship the finest Champagne and outstanding food.
We welcome the opportunity of introducing you to the noble art of Sabrage and the Confrérie du Sabre d’Or.  Two hundred seventy five years ago dashing cavalry officers of the French Army, the happy Hussars from Germany and the lascivious Lancers from Great Britain would slice the cork of the Champagne bottle with a saber, rather than put themselves to the effort or removing the wire basket and easing the cork out.
When performed on a suitably chilled bottle, the cork and the glass annulus will fly away, without spilling a drop of the precious wine. The pressure of the Champagne always ensures that no glass falls back in the bottle.
Today, the Maître Sabreur is always there to make sure safety is observed, and the cork flies away from spectators.
There may be no more dashing Dragoons, happy Hussars or lascivious Lancers to sabrage Champagne, but we the Knights of the Golden Swords continue the proud tradition.
